Trail Overview
This is a long, well-maintained hardpack dirt road that travels steadily through a heavily wooded landscape, gaining approximately 2,467 feet of elevation along the route. Trees line both sides of the road for most of the drive, with distant mountain views opening up around three-quarters of the way through the trail. The road is generally wide and mellow with few significant obstacles. About 2 miles from the end, the trail begins to narrow as vegetation closes in from both sides. There are two fallen logs hanging approximately 5–6 feet above the trail, creating a significant overhead-clearance restriction. Full-size 4x4 vehicles may have difficulty squeezing through this section. Beyond this point, expect a tighter route surrounded by dense vegetation as you approach the end of the trail. Hiking is available on the Higley Peak trail off of this road. Legal vehicle access: Motorized use is permitted on this designated Forest Service road. The MVUM designates the route for high-clearance vehicles. Highway-legal vehicles are allowed, including street-legal motorcycles.
Difficulty
Mostly easy, maintained hardpack; the primary concern is the narrow, low-clearance section near the end.
