Trail Overview
Powerline Road is a 4.2-mile point-to-point single-lane dirt route that includes shelf-road sections and some potholes and rutted areas that may make travel difficult for low-clearance vehicles. The road shares its first 1.6 miles with Section 4 of the Washington Backcountry Discovery Route, where users should expect increased traffic, particularly during the summer months. Powerline Road is open year-round.
Difficulty
Powerline Road is best suited for high-clearance vehicles, as shelf road sections and rutted terrain can make travel difficult for low-clearance vehicles. The primary challenges include uneven surfaces, potholes, and areas of exposure along the shelf road, which may require careful driving and attention to tire placement. Weather conditions, such as rain, can increase difficulty, particularly when the surface becomes slick. Increased traffic may also be encountered along the shared WABDR section. As with most trails in the area, bringing a chainsaw or equipment to clear fallen trees is recommended.
