Trail Overview
FS 2170 is a long, easy Forest Service road designated for high-clearance vehicles. The route follows a well-maintained hardpack dirt surface as it steadily climbs the mountainside, gaining approximately 2,115 feet of elevation from start to finish. The road is winding but generally smooth, with no obstacles or technical sections. Dense forest lines much of the route, while occasional breaks in the trees provide views of distant mountain ranges. Several dispersed camping opportunities are located along the climb, with additional camping available near the end of the road where permitted. A gate marks the end of the route, so drivers should be prepared to turn around there. Overall, FS 2170 is a mellow scenic climb with no technical difficulty.
Difficulty
The road is maintained as hardpack with few obstacles and no significant technical terrain. The primary challenges are the sustained elevation gain, winding road, and normal backcountry driving conditions rather than difficult obstacles.
