Trail Overview

Frost Creek is a 2-mile loop off of the Hoyt singletrack. It is a steep singletrack that curves through a forested hillside, with light ruts, troughs, and frequent small roots and loose rocks in the trail. It mostly ascends from north to south, gaining over 1,000 feet elevation in 2 miles. There are smooth sections that are fast and flowy, riding through some really scenic hill sides full of ponderosa pine. There are lots of small, low-hanging branches to watch out for that whack your head, and some chunkier sections with more embedded small rocks. Expect tight corners around the trees, and moderate switchbacks, with shelfy narrow sections around the hillsides, as it follows the curvature of the mountains. The south end of the trail has more of the switchbacks and steeper terrain. There are several bridge crossings over small streams on the route as well. It’s a fun alternate loop to try if riding the Hoyt trail. It’s easy to ride right past the northern intersection, but there are small signs on the trees marking the start of the trail.

Difficulty

This is a moderately easy track because it doesn’t have any major rock obstacles or ledges, but it does have some mild switchbacks and narrow terrain. There are loose rocks, tight turns, and small roots, with mild exposure, but it isn’t overly difficult and goes through low-consequence terrain that is ideal for less experienced riders looking to improve their skills. Expect some steep terrain and low-hanging branches.
