Trail Overview

Fishhook Flat is an easy connector trail between the North Fork Taneum and South Fork Taneum trails in the Wenatchee National Forest. The trail is 4.3 miles long and is full of easy technical features such as short but steep climbs and descents, easy switchbacks, loose rocks, mild exposure, and small creek crossings and bridges. It is the ideal trail for less experienced riders to get some great forest experience in a low-consequence terrain. The trail is generally really wide throughout the whole route, with several segments that are full of brake bumps that slow you down. There is some mild side-hilling, but the trail is wide during these segments, so it is not as intimidating for newer riders. The switchbacks are gradual and wide, making them very approachable and flowy. The trail intersects with Taneum Ridge a quarter of the way through from the south entrance, which lets you bail out to FS 3300 if need be. The northern half of the trail gets a bit curvier and slightly more technical, with steeper spots and more frequent switchbacks. There are frequent small roots and rocks in the trail, but the trail was clear of any recent deadfall. Part of the trail had been reinforced with cinderblocks at a stream crossing; watch out for mud puddles in the shaded areas.
