Trail Overview

Conditions along this trail are highly variable, with some sections being narrow, single lane, mildly rutted with a bit of encroaching overgrowth, while other sections further up are 2+ vehicles wide with well-maintained gravel. That said, nothing about this trail is particularly challenging, and most AWD/4WD vehicles will have no problem. Near the bottom is a small quarry that is in active use much of the time, so be mindful of construction equipment. The trail has a gradual climb, with a number of side trails leading to campsites. Nearing the end, there is an obvious but unmarked trailhead for Evans Lake, which is about a 5-minute walk. Shortly after this, the trail ends in a large turnaround, which also serves as the Black Rock Lake trailhead. Little to no cell service is available along this trail.

A lot of construction along the way. The way up was not bad and waited a few minutes for machinery move and let us pass on the single track road. The way back, took much longer, but we were happy to wait as we were on a beautiful area and could enjoy the scenery while we waited for the construction workers to finish what they were doing and let us pass. If you are in a hurry, you should avoid this trail until construction is completed. We had time to kill, so we took a chance. The trail otherwise was fairly well maintained. At the top, when you get closer to Evan’s Lake, there are some ruts and holes, but nothing to difficult.
