Trail Overview

This is a wide gravel road that leads from the town of Ione into the national forest. The further you travel, the road begins to narrow and ends at a set of railroad tracks where another road begins. This trail is the main access point into the forest and is suitable for any vehicle type. At the railroad tracks, there are ruts and washouts over a foot deep that you must choose a line and traverse to access the other trails in the area. While traveling this trail, you will have some views of the ridges and peaks around you, and camping is allowed along the trail, but there are small sections of private land you will need to avoid. Cell phone service was decent on the end Closest to town, but it weakens the further you travel. Ione is approximately 5 minutes from the beginning of this trail and is the nearest source of services and supplies.
