Trail Overview

Potts Mountain East is a 7-mile trail that runs through the Jefferson National Forest near Potts Mountain Jeep Trail. The trail differs from typical forest roads in the area, in that it follows a ridgeline and lacks the switchbacks that are common for Virginia forest roads. Potts East can be traveled by most 4WD vehicles, and is not an overly difficult trail. It does have several water pits, but they have rocky bottoms and are typically not more than 12" deep. This can change significantly during heavy rain, though. In some areas, the trail does cross private property, and there are a few residences along the trail.

Difficulty

The trail is fairly simple, but does have some slightly rocky areas. There are also water pits that can be somewhat deep if there's been significant recent rainfall.

F Love this trail it’s very simple as long as you have a astandard truck with a 3 1/2 inch lift. I would even say a standard truck no lift could make it as long as you had some sort of all-terrain tire or a little bit of get up and go through the mud holes. I went after it hadn’t rained in a while and I still went through 11 mudholes some small some Big. Also plenty of camping sites along the side that you can get out of peoples vision. Overall great trail as long as you’re OK with getting your truck scratches nothing you can’t buff out. Lots of great views too

Was an easy trail with some fun mud/water parts that were maybe 8-12 inches deep. Couple camping spots along the way. Cell service is spotty once you get past the 3rd mile marker
