Trail Overview

Lignite Mines is a thorough trail consisting of a well-maintained gravel road that is approximately two lanes wide for most of the route. The trail either begins or ends at the historic Lignite ghost town, providing users with an interesting destination to explore along the way. The ghost town is best viewed after the leaves have fallen, when the reduced vegetation provides better visibility of the historic remains. As the trail continues, it follows along the top of the ridge and provides users with wonderful scenery and expansive views of the surrounding landscape. The peaceful ridge-top drive makes Lignite Mines an enjoyable route for those looking to combine scenic views with a bit of local history. The trail is free of major obstacles and is suitable for most vehicles, making it an accessible option for a relaxed scenic drive through the area.
