Trail Overview

Lignite Road offers users the flexibility of being traveled as an out-and-back or connected with Lignite Mines to create a through trail. The route consists of a well-packed gravel road that provides a smooth and enjoyable drive through the surrounding countryside. The trail is free of major obstacles, although users may encounter the occasional shallow mud puddle, particularly following periods of rain. After passing the connector to Lignite Mines, Lignite Road eventually dead-ends at the Lignite Mines ghost town. This historic site provides an interesting destination for users exploring the area and adds a unique historical element to the trail. The ghost town is best viewed after the leaves have fallen, when the reduced vegetation makes it easier to see the remaining structures and features. Overall, Lignite Road is a scenic and accessible route that pairs well with Lignite Mines for a longer adventure.
