Trail Overview

Nice connector trail from east of the mountains in the valley leading into the mountains. This trail passes through a national forest right of way through private property from the state road for about the first 1.5 miles. A campsite and forestry gate marks the boundary. The trail is a twisty double track with off-camber sections throughout the lower elevations. One small creek crossing washes out badly at some points but is normally passable with high clearance 4wd. Scenic views in fall/winter with a few campsites dotted along the way. No cell service anywhere in the general area.

Difficulty

Initial gate keeper washout just as you enter national forest and the potentional creek washout near the middle. Tight twisty off camber sections also.

Great time on this trail. It was not too overgrown but I would still expect pin stripping, especially in a bigger rig (drive a Nissan Frontier), so wax your stuff regularly. I wanted a trail that I would need 4lo and maybe use the locker and this was perfect. I'm not super experienced and was alone, so didn't want to push it. Just about as much as I would want to do at this point.

off camber sections getting more extreme on the east end 2 (one in the extreme off camber) spots have half fallen trees the make it incapable to get past if your vehicle is more than 7"5'

As the first off-road trails we've ever done this was a fun adventure! Vegetation is very overgrown. There were a few large water puddles that were not deep at all. It was raining when we did this trail which added to some running water along the route. There's the remnants of a washout that has been mostly filled in. We started at Hog Road and went down the trail. We managed to complete this in three and a half hours in our stock Tacoma TRD Off-road.

I took the trail about half way. My first time on it and I got to a turn around spot. The continuing trial was fairly grown up. Being the only one on the trail and having 10 year old with me, I opted to turn around instead of finding out the unknown. Will be back!

Tons of plants, don’t recommend if you care about your paint. 2 easy obstacles where small creeks eroded clay and several 6-10 inch muddy puddles. very beginner friendly my xj on 33s had no issues. You may want to bring a saw especially if it’s windy seemed to be a lot of places where one was needed in the past.

Beautiful ride through the forest. Navigating through the private property at the beginning can be a little tricky. Trail was relatively easy, and it was dry as a bone except for one puddle. I can imagine that it might prove more challenging when wet/muddy. Off-camber sections as others have noted. There is one section of the trail that is steep, with a deep, heavily eroded channel through the middle. If you can’t navigate it, there is a jug handle that goes around (there is a primitive campsite here).

Pretty challenging. Good bit of off camber, rocks, and some undulating spots that could high center your vehicle.

If you’re starting the trail from the south entrance, once you get past all of the private property, it can get kind of technical for a beginner. If I had a spotter, it wouldn’t have been bad. The first quarter section of the trail, is rocky with some sections of steep inclines. There is a downed tree that you have to maneuver around. After you pass the washed out road, the rest of the trail gets really tight, so expect a good amount of pin stripes. But other than the new pin stripes, the beginning was the best part.

Couldn’t have had a better time. Beautiful trail, easy enough for a beginner like myself but still challenging enough to be fun. Tons of cool campsites available. Didn’t see anyone else out there.

This was a great trail but was challenging for sure. Lots of pinstriping with overgrown vegetation. Several sections of the trail are off camber shelfs that were also muddy so side slippage was frequent. There is a portion of the trail about 70% of the way down where it appears to be a washed out stream crossing that only has about a jeep width of room to cross and that was muddy so high risk to slip off and get stuck. Be careful on that. I would not do this one alone (again) because of the risks to get stuck on this one.

No obstructions. Water made it more fun than it would be otherwise. Narrow shelf road a a bit off camber a few times. Dragged hitch one time. Didn’t need lockers. Probably didn’t need 4x4 but once or twice, but solo with no winch was better safe than sorry. Will be back for sure.

Very tight trail with a lot of overgrowth. Pinstripes are unavoidable. Many smaller trees in the trail after a recent hurricane. Had to cut some for a larger truck to get through but nothing too large for a hand axe. Western end has big washout with a steep detour. looks worse than it is. Plan to take your time to either clear brush/trees and slow over small rocky sections.
