Trail Overview

Oat Patch is a scenic trail located within HPW Ranch, a private off-road ranch in the Texas Hill Country. The route winds through a heavily wooded section of the property, making it one of the narrower trails on the ranch. It is best suited for smaller 4x4 vehicles, as the overgrown trees and brush create a tight corridor for nearly the entire drive. If you're looking for a secluded trail with a true backcountry feel, Oat Patch is a great choice.

Difficulty

This trail features a dirt surface with a few dry creek crossings, washouts, and minor uneven terrain. The biggest challenge is the extremely dense vegetation lining both sides of the trail. Pinstriping is almost unavoidable in either direction, so drivers should be prepared for brush contact along the route. While there are no major rock obstacles or steep climbs, a high clearance 4x4 is recommended for crossing the washouts and dry creek beds. Overall, Oat Patch is an easy-to-moderate trail that is best suited for smaller off-road vehicles and drivers who don't mind collecting pinstripes.
