Trail Overview
Man’s Hill is a steep climbing trail located within Concan Adventure Trails that rewards drivers with elevated views of the surrounding Hill Country terrain once reaching the top. The trail begins at the base of the hill and steadily climbs upward through loose rocky terrain before opening up near the summit. Along the route and near the top, it’s possible to spot local wildlife, including aoudad roaming the area. The trail itself is straightforward in layout, but the steady incline and loose surface make it more challenging than many of the park’s easier connector trails. The summit area provides a great stopping point to take in the scenery and surrounding ranch landscape.
Difficulty
On this trail, you’ll encounter a steep incline with loose gravel, loose rock, and uneven terrain throughout the climb. While there are no major boulders or large rock ledges, maintaining traction can become difficult due to the constantly shifting surface, especially on steeper sections of the hill. Wheel spin can occur easily for vehicles without proper tires or traction aids. A high-clearance 4x4 with aggressive off-road tires is strongly recommended, and a rear locker can be helpful for maintaining momentum on the climb. Wet conditions can significantly increase the difficulty by making the loose surface even more slippery.
