Trail Overview
Tower Trail is a less than half-mile-long spur off of Signal Mountain Trail that takes you to the summit of Signal Mountain, at 2,910 feet elevation. There is a utility pole at the top, and space to turn around, but not much of a view. The short spur is a narrow quad track between the dense forested hillsides, gradually climbing up about 250 feet in elevation over the short route. The trail is covered in a layer of small loose rocks, with shallow ruts, but no major obstacles. The trail is mostly dry, with no major mud sections, but watch out for low-hanging branches and loose sticks in the trail. There are a few bigger embedded rock layers. At the top, it goes underneath a power line and the utility pole. It’s just a fun spur to check out when riding Signal Mountain Trail.
Difficulty
This is rated as Moderate by the North Cumberland WMA. However, it is a mostly easy trail, as it does not have any major obstacles. It is a semi-steep grade, but the trail is not totally rutted out, like some of the surrounding trails, and it wasn’t muddy. There are small loose rocks, but no major rock ledges, and it is decently wide for most UTVs.
