Trail Overview

Signal Mountain Trail is a moderate OHV trail through the North Cumberland OHV Area that spurs off of Round Mountain Trail. This trail is mostly a gradual descent from east to west on a smooth dirt track covered in a light layer of loose rocks. It rides past scenic mossy rock outcroppings in a dense Appalachian forest. There is a moderate rock ledge feature about halfway through that you’ll drop down when riding from east to west. The west end of the trail reaches the edge of the North Cumberland WMA, and it connects to a Brimstone SxS trail, which requires a separate permit. About halfway through Signal Mountain Trail, you can take the short spur onto Tower Trail to reach the summit of Signal Mountain at an elevation of 2,910 feet.

Difficulty

This is rated as Moderate by the North Cumberland WMA. The majority of the trail is easy, except for one moderate rock ledge obstacle about halfway through. The trail was mostly dry, but the dirt is mostly made of clay, and it can get very slick and muddy in wet conditions.
