Trail Overview

The School House Trail within the Sundquist Unit of the North Cumberland Off- Highway Vehicle Riding Area is open to high-clearance 4x4 vehicles and Off- Highway Vehicles. The short trail, at 1.2 miles long, is mostly wide and gradual, with minimal elevation change. It meanders on a hilltop in a lush forest of eastern hemlocks and beech trees. About half of the route is a simple gravel road, with loose rocks and uneven dips and humps. However, there are several segments that are rutted out and full of mud. Some of the muddy spots have bypasses, but not all. Additionally, some sections are narrower and troughed between the dirt banks. The School House Trail connects Lee Asbury Road Trail 13 to Jennings Trail.
