Trail Overview
Laco Pit Trail is an easy and lightly maintained two-track in the North Cumberland OHV Riding Area. If you start your ride at the Cumberland Trailhead on Norma Road and take Laco Road, this will likely be one of the first trails you ride. It appears to peter out on the north end just past the intersection with Laco Road, as most users take it south instead, and it reaches the edge of the North Cumberland WMA on the north end. It goes past wildflowers and climbs up to a clearing with a viewpoint on the north end before it peters out and becomes very overgrown. Heading south, the first 1.5 miles of trail is mostly flat, through open fields and forest, and gets more sun, so it’s not as muddy or rutted as some of the surrounding trails. The rest of the trail has small loose rocks and gravel with shallow ruts. The south end becomes steeper and more difficult, as it descends down a steep and rutted hill with ruts crisscrossing the trail. There is one spot with bigger embedded boulders and ruts that drivers will have to go over. Expect uneven ground with ruts on one side, short rock ledges, roots, and stick debris.
Difficulty
This trail is moderately easy because it has a few ruts and short rock ledges, but it is not overly difficult or muddy or rutted out. The most difficult part is on the south end, with a few deeper ruts and bigger embedded rocks. The majority of the trail is gradual and easy.
