Trail Overview

Coalmont Trail 2 (Blue) is an exciting, moderate-difficulty off-road route designed for intermediate drivers seeking a technical challenge in the scenic Cumberland Plateau region. Spanning approximately 1.4 miles within the Coalmont OHV Park, this trail stands out for its steep hill climb featuring tight switchbacks and numerous rock obstacles that reach up to 24 inches in height. Drivers will navigate an elevation gain of about 468 feet. The terrain features a primary surface of dirt and rugged rock, which can become slick and highly challenging during wet seasons. To successfully conquer this trail, high-clearance 4x4 vehicles with appropriate underbody protection and lockers are highly recommended due to the steep gradients and significant ledges. In addition to the rock crawls, drivers must negotiate eight creek crossings, which vary in depth and difficulty depending on recent rainfall. The trail is highly accessible from other popular routes in the park, including Trail 1, Trail 13, and Trail 2 (Green), making it a perfect segment to include in a larger day-long loop. Proper trail etiquette and slow, controlled crawling are essential to navigate the tight turns and preserve the trail's natural features.

Trail has some huge rocks and boulders. Need high clearance vehicles with 4WD and possibly need to be locked. When I went a lot of creek/river crossing were dried up. May be difficult with more water. I would advise not to do this one alone and have a good spotter!
