Trail Overview
Whiting Run - FS 321 starts with a well-laid gravel and rock road surface. After a short distance, it transitions to a packed dirt road with only a few scattered rocks. This trail is accessible by high-clearance and 4x4 vehicles.
Around 0.6 miles, you'll reach a small incline with a great overlook to your left. It's worth stopping here to take in the clear views of the valley and the surrounding mountain range.
The trail gradually gains elevation as you continue climbing. At approximately 1.2 miles, watch for a hidden, fairly large boulder on the left side of the road. It sits close enough to the trail that you'll want to avoid it.
At 1.4 miles, you'll reach a Y-intersection. Stay right to remain on the main route.
After taking the right fork, you'll pass through an area where logging and forest management work is taking place. Be aware of logs and cut trees staged along the sides of the road.
At 1.6 miles, you'll come to another Y-intersection. Bear to the right here.
A short distance later, around 1.7 miles, you'll arrive at a small trail intersection. Stay left and continue straight on the main road. The surface remains mostly packed dirt with occasional small rocks.
You'll soon encounter another fork in the road. Keep left once again to stay on the route.
At approximately 2.6 miles, you'll come across two medium-sized mud holes. Depending on recent weather, they may be shallow enough to drive through or require a little extra caution.
