Trail Overview
Libby Run North - FS 122N starts off with an off-camber section that is muddy. Early on, you'll come to a large dip with a stream crossing. Recommended: 4-Low, high-clearance 4WD vehicle, slow and controlled driving. Engage 4-Low before entering this section. Approach the crossing slowly, as there is a significant drop-off just before the stream. The entry into the creek is both steep and off-camber, making careful tire placement important, especially for lower-clearance vehicles. After crossing the stream, the trail immediately climbs uphill while bending to the left. This climb is fairly steep and can be slick when wet. Continuing uphill, you'll encounter a large drop-off on the driver's side and a sizeable dip with a moderate amount of mud farther up the trail. A large mud hole with deep ruts, several dips, and a few higher spots that can cause uneven articulation. Maintain a slow pace throughout this section. Around 2–3 mph is ideal in the roughest areas, and it's generally best to keep speeds under 10 mph for the entire trail. At approximately 0.3 miles, you'll encounter another large dip. Use caution and ease through it slowly. Beyond this obstacle, the trail becomes smoother, allowing you to increase speed slightly. After climbing onto the plateau, you'll come across a smaller dip that is much less challenging. Overall, Libby Run North is a technical trail featuring off-camber terrain, stream crossings, steep climbs, mud, ruts, and several deep dips. It rewards slow, controlled driving and careful line selection more than speed.
