Trail Overview

This trail is FS 144A. The trail starts as a spur off trail FS 144. The surface is a bit gravelly and overgrown right now, with goldenrod on the sides of the road. From the start, there are some potholes on the surface, and the road is uneven. This is a single-track trail, just 0.1 miles, and there are some larger boulders, so take it slow. 0.2 miles, and there's a fork in the road; take the left trail. When you go left, the trail is still overgrown, and the surface is pretty uneven. There are some decent-sized ruts that will grab your wheel on the left-hand side and take over your direction of travel, so keep your hands on the steering wheel. The ruts switch over to the right side and then back to the left side; still pay attention. 0.4 miles in there are decent size mudhole. 1/2 mile in, there is a large mud hole that spans the surface of the road; just after, there is a large rock that spans the entire width of the trail. There’s a bunch of small rocks and ruts on the surface of the road. The road surface stretches out to be wet and sandy. 0.7 miles, and the road heads up to the left; there are some pretty good-sized ruts from rain runoff. That's a rough spot in the road there. 0.8 miles and the trail levels out and is nice, still rocky on the surface of the road. 0.9 miles and is a tiny tree down but you can get by it if you stay over to the left-hand side. At 1 mile and a road surface opens to be smooth and sandy. 1.1 miles, there are smaller trees down, but you can get around on the right side. 1.2 miles and there's some deep holes with water. 1.3 miles, the trail ends. Accessibility: Like many forest roads, its condition can vary, and it is best to check the Allegheny National Forest Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) for the latest information on its status. Conditions are also subject to weather and seasonal changes. https://www.fs.usda.gov/r09/allegheny
