Trail Overview
Deep within the beautiful Mount Hood National Forest, the LaDee Flats Extension - FS 4611000 serves as a tight, immersive two-track "cherry-stem" leading directly into the scenic Roaring River Wilderness. To access this unmarked route, travelers simply continue past the fork of the previous LaDee Flats section and the 140 spur, keeping to the right to begin. While this secluded path receives very little vehicle traffic, it serves as a vital route for outdoor enthusiasts looking to reach the remote southern trailhead of the Huxley Lake hiking trail. The journey begins on a flat path closely lined with vibrant young saplings before gradually turning east to parallel the rugged hillside. As you carefully navigate the trail, the dense, green forest canopy occasionally breaks, and by the 3.5-mile mark, the landscape rewards you with sprawling, wide-open views of the magnificent Roaring River valley sweeping below.
Difficulty
This is a tight, single-lane dirt and gravel out-and-back spur that grows progressively bumpier the further you travel. While the route begins relatively flat, drivers will quickly encounter medium to slightly large potholes, shallow seasonal mud puddles, and distinct rain cuts carved into the surface by hillside drainage. Near the 4.1-mile mark, travelers must also carefully navigate a small off-camber slope obstacle. Elevated ground clearance is highly recommended to safely traverse the uneven terrain, cross the deep drainage ruts, and manage the mud without risking damage to your undercarriage, especially during wetter seasons.
