Trail Overview
Branching directly off of Highway 22, Homestead Road - FS 2200020 offers a remarkably scenic and historically significant drive through the beautiful Willamette National Forest. The overall environment features an open, recovering landscape marked by towering silver snags and vibrant new undergrowth as the area bounces back from the historic 2020 Beachie Creek and Lionshead Fires. The public frequently uses this accessible, well-traveled route to find quiet dispersed camping, access remote hiking trails, or simply take in the expansive, unobstructed views of the surrounding mountain peaks and the gorgeous North Santiam River winding through the canyon below. Although there is no official trail sign marking the entrance, the route is easy to follow as it gradually gains elevation. With several convenient pullouts scattered along the way, there are plenty of excellent opportunities to safely stop, stretch your legs, and photograph the resilient, sweeping mountain landscape.
