Trail Overview
Highline is a 1.7-mile point-to-point trail connecting Mount Emily Road and Mainline, providing an alternate route into MERA. The route features light rutting, embedded rock, and mild brush encroachment, along with views overlooking La Grande. The trail is unmarked at the Mainline intersection. An Oregon State ATV operating permit is required for all vehicles within the Mount Emily Recreation Area. The trail is open year-round; however, management requests that trails not be used when mud sticks to tires.
Difficulty
Highline is generally an easier trail, though light rutting, embedded rock, and mild brush encroachment can require some attention in spots. The trail is suitable for most riders and machines allowed within MERA, with the primary challenges being uneven terrain rather than large obstacles. Conditions become more difficult when wet, and riders should avoid using the trail when mud sticks to tires.
