Trail Overview
This is one of the standout trails in the southern part of the forest, offering an unforgettable drive to a mountain pass at an elevation of over 5,300 feet. The well-maintained road winds through dense forest before passing through a striking corridor of tall trees and climbing to spectacular viewpoints overlooking the surrounding mountains. Fallen trees are common throughout the route, and while many have been cleared, carrying a chainsaw is recommended in case new trees block the road. Drivers should also watch for damaged or leaning trees, as well as logs and branches that may protrude into the trail. One section of the trail requires extra caution, where a sharp corner appears suddenly beside a steep drop-off. Although the road is generally smooth enough to encourage higher speeds, this section can catch drivers by surprise, so slow down and stay alert.
