Trail Overview
This trail begins as a wide, well-maintained gravel road that follows an old logging route through beautiful forest. The lower section is smooth, winding, and easy to drive, with sweeping curves and several open quarry areas that contrast with the surrounding trees. The road gradually climbs into the mountains, offering an enjoyable drive through changing scenery. Roughly half a mile beyond the quarry, the trail begins to narrow as it enters denser forest. After crossing the cattle guard, conditions deteriorate noticeably. The route becomes a single lane with increasing amounts of rain damage, deep potholes, erosion, and sections where water has washed away parts of the road. Overgrown vegetation closes in on both sides, making pinstriping likely, particularly for full-size vehicles. Several steeper sections benefit from the use of low range, especially when climbing. The trail continues to become rougher and less maintained as it gains elevation. A connecting trail near the end has been closed by logging operations, and the route eventually reaches a point where continuing is no longer practical due to the condition of the road. While this trail appears to have originally provided access to a viewpoint, the final section is now heavily degraded and difficult to traverse.
Difficulty
Although it remains a beautiful drive through the forest, the upper section is considerably more challenging than the beginning due to the deep potholes, erosion, narrow sections, and overgrowth.
