Trail Overview

Set within a lush conifer forest filled with tall firs and dense shrub understory in the Deschutes National Forest, FS 2067540 provides a tranquil backcountry spur drive. Accessed directly off of Forest Service Road 2067 near Santiam Pass, this 1.5-mile out-and-back route penetrates deep into quiet timberland. Forest visitors and sightseers navigate this serene path to enjoy peaceful woodland solitude, observe native flora, or explore off-the-beaten-path forest terrain. The driving surface consists of a flat, hard-packed gravel single-track with embedded stones and encroaching side brush, earning an easy Grade 1 difficulty rating. Departing the primary access road, the track maintains a level grade with virtually no elevation change as it winds beneath a shady evergreen canopy. While digital mapping depicts a V-shaped road fork near the end, no second branch exists on the ground. As the road progresses, lush roadside vegetation gradually narrows the corridor, though the track remains navigable before terminating at a natural treefall barrier.

Difficulty

Earning an accessible Grade 1 difficulty rating, this 1.5-mile out-and-back forest spur presents a level, hard-packed gravel surface free of technical hazards. Steep inclines, deep ruts, mud holes, and high-clearance rock obstacles are absent along the entire route, though occasional flat rocks remain embedded in the dirt base. Primary non-technical considerations involve navigating progressive side-brush encroachment and executing a turnaround near the fallen tree blockage at the end of the line.
