Trail Overview

This is a sand-based forest road that leads to Dugout Lake, then makes a loop back to the starting point. The road has ruts and washouts up to a foot and a half in some places, as well as lots of washboard sections. At about the halfway point of the loop, there is a rock slab drop-off approximately 2 feet, but there is room to go around it if you aren't comfortable taking it. You will have an amazing, front-and-center view of Mount Washington on the backside of the loop, and camping is available along this entire trail. Cell phone service was weak but enough to get a message out if needed, and there are no amenities on this trail, so travel prepared. The nearest services and supplies are in Sisters, Oregon, approximately 35 minutes away from the beginning of this trail. High-clearance 4x4 is recommended.
