Trail Overview
This gravel-based forest road leads to the Candle Creek Campground, where it ends in a quiet, forested setting. The route is open to highway-legal vehicles only and is generally wide enough for easy passing, though the surface is very rough. Expect heavy washboard conditions for nearly the entire drive, along with frequent bumps that can make for a slow and sometimes uncomfortable ride.
Camping opportunities can be found throughout the corridor, with the road providing access to dispersed campsites as well as the developed campground at the end. Travelers are treated to dense evergreen forests for most of the journey, with occasional openings that provide scenic views of Mt. Jefferson on clear days. The peaceful surroundings and mountain scenery make this a pleasant destination for those looking to escape into the forest.
Amenities are limited. Cell phone service is weak to nonexistent along much of the route, so visitors should plan accordingly. The only available facility is a vault-style toilet located within the campground. There is no potable water, fuel, or other services on the trail. The nearest supplies are located in the town of Sisters, Oregon, approximately 45 minutes away, making it important to arrive prepared for your trip.
