Trail Overview
This is a dirt trail that climbs up to the area near the old Alder Spring Lookout. The trail is narrow, about one vehicle wide, with limited places to pass, and is tight with overgrown vegetation and trees. There are a lot of rock garden sections that are bumpy, some humps/whoops, and then some boulders sticking out of the ground up to a foot. You must go over as the trail is too narrow to go around them. The trail gradually changes in elevation, but seems mostly flat; it gains 706 feet in elevation and loses 945 feet over 8 miles. Certain areas require navigation through tight trees, and some areas where old blowdown has been trimmed just wide enough for a high clearance 4x4 to get through. High up on Green Ridge and there are good views of the mountains and surrounding ridges, including Mt Jefferson and the Three Sisters. Camping is available along this trail with several dispersed campsites along the way. There are no amenities, and cell phone service is weak and spotty. The nearest services and supplies are in Sisters, Oregon, over 1 hour ride away from this trail. This trail is suitable for all vehicle types, but a high-clearance 4x4 is recommended.
