Trail Overview

Branching off Bruno Mountain Road - FS 2242 near the base of Bruno Mountain, Forest Service Road 2242805 is a scenic out-and-back mountain spur within the Willamette National Forest. The route climbs through a landscape actively regenerating with dense green understory, wild shrubs, and standing timber snags following the 2020 Lionshead Fire. Consisting of a single-lane, hard-packed gravel and native dirt roadbed, the route carries a difficulty rating of 2. Outdoor enthusiasts frequently travel this quiet mountain track to take in scenic views of the surrounding Cascade foothills and explore the nearby Bruno Lakes basin. While the lower section offers a pleasant and open drive through recovering vegetation, traveling higher along the ridge enters heavier burn areas where several large fallen tree trunks currently block the roadway, turning the route into a dead-end spur.

Difficulty

Rated 2, this forest road presents an approachable and non-technical ascent along a firm gravel and dirt surface. The roadbed features gradual grade changes, scattered loose stones, and minor surface debris common in recovering burn zones. The principal obstacle along the route is heavy deadfall near the upper section, where multiple downed logs and large branches completely obstruct the path and halt vehicle travel. Exercising caution around blind corners and utilizing wider turnouts to reverse direction before the fallen timber ensures a safe outing.
