Trail Overview

West Ridge Road is another trail that users can loop together with the surrounding routes in the Boiling Spring Lakes Preserve trail network. The trail begins as a well-groomed, wide gravel and dirt road that provides relatively easy travel. As you continue, however, West Ridge Road gradually narrows and develops into a less-maintained two-track with a noticeably more rugged feel. Users should be cautious with their speed, particularly as they enter the less-maintained sections. Deep coastal mud holes can appear quickly and may contain extremely soft, bottomless mud despite looking manageable from the vehicle. After periods of rain, conditions can deteriorate significantly, making proper recovery equipment and careful line selection especially important. During dry conditions, West Ridge Road offers an enjoyable coastal trail that adds some variety to the easier roads throughout the BSLP network.
