Trail Overview
Rock Mount Loop was formerly a loop trail and features the perfect trailhead for airing down. The trail is seemingly divided into two by the forest road used to access the trail. One portion has a group of three mild to moderate obstacles ranging from tight turns, to large bolder rock gardens, to loose-rocky hill climbs. The other side of the trail is used as a connecter road to Daniel and Dickey Bell, the two hardest trails in Uwharrie National Forest. The hardest part of this trail is a ticket corner on a bridge immediately as you turn off the road. The first of the three obstacles is a loose rock hill climb that is rather easy for most although rocks can kick up and pose a challenge. Immediately following the climb is a rock garden with 3 main lines, the first is a single tall bolder that has to be straddled, the next is a simpler ledge, and the third is a small ledge with a sharp turn that can put rock rails to use. The final and most difficult obstacle is a rock garden with a few potential lines requiring high ground clearance and articulation and may throw the vehicle off-camber. A few mud pits may exist throughout the trail depending on recent rainfall.
Difficulty
The most challenging thing about this trail is none of these obstacles can be fully avoided. A few boulders are scattered throughout the trail that may be close to 20 inches. Additionally, the hill climbs can be challenging due to the steep grade and loose rocks.
