Trail Overview

FS-576 in Uwharrie National Forest, also known as Moccasin Cir, is a gravel road that splits the National Forest from east to west and dead-ends at the Deep Woods camp area. Along the way, there are several primitive campsites just off the road. Some of them have stunning views of Badin Lake just south of the dam and the mountains in the area. At the end of the trail, the track goes from a groomed gravel road to a very rutted downhill portion of dirt trail that terminates at the water's edge. Although the ground is very uneven and difficult for vehicles with trailers to camp, many flat areas will support tent camping with very peaceful views of the lake.

Camped here over the weekend. It was very busy with a good amount of dispersed campers and people off roading. Spent some time fishing along lake Badin as well. The roads were really dusty and was a little rough but could be accessed by 2 wheel drive

This is the main road through the Uwharrie National Forest campgrounds and connects to most of the trails. The OHV trails are closed from December to March each year, but this road is still a nice drive through the forest and the last two miles down to the boat ramp are a little rocky but still easy. Starts as pavement, then gravel, then dirt, then dirt and rocks towards the end. Very nice views of the lake down at the boat ramp, but the road is not maintained well on the last downhill stretch so be ready for that.

Easy trail wide enough for 2 vehicles. Mostly gravel but dirt in few spots. Easily make it to Robbins Branch Trailhead with 2WD Vehicle. End of trail to water could possibly need 4WD.

Well maintained gravel road. Ran across one other person dispersed camping and multiple people tracking their hunting dogs.

Easy ride, with some rocks in the road and bumps that are easy to manage. There were quite a bit of people on the road. We saw a lot of dispersed camping spots

Any 4x4 or all wheel drive and easily do it and even small cars can do it with some careful driving until the end where there is a sign that the road is no longer maintained after that point

Non challenging gravel forest road. However the section called Deepwater Trl at the end can be challenging and leads to a steep and loose dirt road leading to the river. Be sure to stop along the road and check out the sites as there are some great views including cliffs and a waterfall!

Trail was clear of fallen trees. Some cantaloupe sized rocks scattered in some places. Smooth pavement in some places. Mostly gravel trail. I only saw 2 other vehicles on the trail although there were some parked in camping sites. Easy drive through a beautiful forest.
