Trail Overview
Trail 9A is a 1.3-mile-long ATV trail that starts at the end of Angostura Road (FS Road 89), next to a few private homes. The trail goes through a couple of gates, as there are cattle grazing in the area. It climbs from east to west, gaining about 500 feet in elevation throughout the route. It is constantly covered in small embedded rocks, making it a slow and bumpy ride. The trail rides on a wide hilltop and continues as a shelf trail cut into the hillside. It remains wide enough for ATVs throughout the whole route, and had several wide puddles in late summer/early fall after heavy rains. The forest setting is very scenic, riding through aspen groves and tall pines on the edge of a burn area. Several sections are completely full of loose cobble rocks that ping you around, and there is a shallow stream crossing near the east end through the Rito Angostura Creek. Overall, it's easier than some of the surrounding ATV trails and wider, but it’s still very rocky, with steep sections, so it’s best for riders with some basic experience. This trail is open to motorized use from 3/15 to 11/15.
Difficulty
This is a moderately easy ATV trail because although there aren’t any major obstacles or ledges, the trail is still very rocky, with some steep climbs, so it’s ideal for riders with a basic experience level. It’s still approachable for beginner riders who are up for a challenge, as it remains wide, with low consequences.
