Trail Overview

Slope to Slope will connect the Angel Fire Ski Resort to the Sipapu Ski Resort with 30 miles of an enjoyable drive . Both units have year round activities. Developed camping is available on the southern end of the route, while primitive dispersed camping is plentiful along the high elevations of the route. Huero Lake is a nice little side shoot if you choose. Snow can close this route very quickly and large drifts and slides keep it closed past the normal thaw. The northern section of the road is rocky with many pine trees, keeping the view hidden until elevation is found, then every other turn allows the views of mountains and draws to be taken in.

Easy trail from Tres Ritos to Angel Fire. Very well maintained fire road you could literally take a minivan down. 4wd not necessary, just slow down for the water bars and ditches.

Downed Tree
Drove south to north and tried connecting to Rio Chiquito to drive down into Taos but a large downed tree blocked the way about ~80% of the way there.

Wide open. Saw three people in 29 miles. No issues in a long bed crew cab super duty.

Easy trail that does get narrow in spots. A few big fifth wheels out where I wouldn't expect to find them. I spent the night at the top between Luna and Durham Canyons. I came in from the Taos side and also left that direction. Near the top there is a large culvert positioned to be installed so you might expect the trail to be closed at that point pretty soon. It was a very beautiful drive and a great overnight stay.

Open all the way. Nice creek for most of the first half beginning at the Sipapu end. Several side trails leading up or down the mountain depending which one you take. Beautiful mountain and deep valley views. Few ruts from smalll running creeks.

Beautiful drive. Probably 3-4 other cars. The roads were rocky in some parts and there was a few mud puddles but otherwise a very beautiful easy drive.

Great dual sport ride! Not many people until you get close to the campsite areas near Tres Ritos. Trail is in great shape besides the normal loose rock areas.

Highly recommend. Forest service has cleared all obstructions. Any 4x4 with decent clearance and do this trail and it is worth it. Good road variety and breath taking views - some loose rock and a little mud. Roads narrows a little with a steep drop off, but wide enough for a standard width truck/jeep/suv. Erosion control berms are found at both ends of the trail. Easy for 4x4s but low clearance vehicles could get stuck.
