FS 195S Primitive Trail

This section of 195S is a primitive and advanced section of trail that has severe flooding damage that has caused massive washouts that will be impassable for the average rider. For those who dare, there are a few faint tracks to follow through the wash outs, but it does not appear to connect anymore to 195W on the west end of the trail, as the wash outs have too steep of embankments to safely cross. From the east entrance of the trail, it starts off at a primitive spur off of the main Elephant Rock trail. There are signs and arrows at the entrance, but the trail is overgrown, with not many tracks to follow. It follows a primitive bench on the edge of the mountainside that is soft dirt and pea-gravel, and very narrow. The trail sits below the Elephant Rock formations, so you get a great view of the rock spires when looking up north. You can see that there are logs cut from previous riders, but it doesn’t look very trafficked anymore since the wash outs prevent it from being a through-trail. It's interesting to explore; just don't expect to take this trail to make your day ride a loop through the system. The first wash out is after only .2 miles, but you can see that there is a steep switchback down the bank into the washed out ravine, and another faint track to get up the other side, which requires plowing through soft dirt on a tall dirt bank. This will likely only be passable by advanced riders, or with help from a buddy. There is more primitive side-hilling and overgrown vegetation between here and the next wash out, which is at .8 miles. Riders may want to turn around here. Extreme riders could try to push through, but will likely get turned around, as there is another massive washout on the east side of 195W.
