Trail Overview

This is a 1.4-mile-long dirt bike trail that parallels the main Elephant Rock Trail - FS 195. On the west end, it starts at an intersection with FS 195 where the signs indicate that FS 195 goes to a photo opportunity, while this trail goes left instead. This route is very defined and easy to follow, mostly being an old shelf mining road going through a forested corridor of aspens and pines. It’s mostly gradual, not very rocky, and most downfall was cut. There may be small branches or aspens hanging over the trail to watch out for. It meanders the hillsides until it meets up with FS 195B. It’s a very easy option in the trail system; however, it bypasses riding along the edge of the Elephant Rock formations and viewpoints, which are incredible to see, so it’s best to take it as an alternate option if you are looping back after finishing FS 195 or if you’ve already checked out the viewpoints. It is slightly easier than the portion of FS 195 that it parallels.
