Winters Creek - FS 56135

This lightly traveled out-and-back trail offers stunning, unobstructed views of Independence Mountain and the expansive valley below. The route navigates through dense Aspen and mountain mahogany groves, as well as areas thick with tall grasses. The trail needs significant maintenance and clearing to pass comfortably. Exercise extreme caution regarding snakes hiding in the tall, dense grasses when stepping outside your vehicle. Eventually, it terminates at a small turnaround point just past a narrow tree grove, where nature has fully reclaimed the track. Note that the southern end, which historically connected to the lower Winters Creek road, is now overgrown and fenced off. You must backtrack the way you came. Watch for cattle on the trail and manage any gates properly. There is zero cell service in this area. Download all maps before arrival.
