Trail Overview
The White Star Mines trail is a short, scenic offroad route near Logandale, Nevada, perfect for beginners, families, and history buffs looking to explore a historic cluster of abandoned gypsum mines. Stretching just under a half-mile with a minimal elevation change of about 86 feet, this easy, dirt-surface loop offers an accessible adventure for stock four-wheel-drive vehicles, SxSs, and dirt bikes. The trail branches off from the end of the Weiser Valley Trail and features a technical rating of 2, meaning there are no difficult obstacles or challenging terrain to navigate. Offroaders can expect a smooth, straightforward drive while taking in the stunning, rugged desert vistas that stretch in every direction.
While the historical gypsum mines are a fascinating highlight of the trip, they are securely fenced off for public safety, so visitors should plan to admire them from a distance. The trail is highly seasonal due to the extreme heat of the Mojave Desert, making the cooler months from late fall to early spring the absolute best time to plan a visit. Located just south of the Muddy River, this trail can easily be combined with longer nearby routes in the Logandale system for a full day of desert exploration. Since the loop is short and simple, no special recovery gear or advanced driving skills are required, making it an excellent warm-up or quick detour for any offroad rig passing through the area.
