Trail Overview
This trail takes you into the land of steep hill climbs and descents. The route runs up, down, over, and alongside the peaks in the center of the range. Despite the steepness, traction on the hills is quite good. While there are some ruts, they're easy to avoid, making it simple to pick a good line. 4-Low and low gear are highly recommended for the steep descents. Use engine braking and stay off your brakes as much as possible to keep them from overheating. The trail is a fantastic over-the-top connector to other trails in the area. The views from this trail are absolutely outstanding in every direction, making you feel on top of the world, especially on days with beautiful cloud formations. This is an open range area. Be sure to manage all cattle gates properly and always leave them exactly as you found them. Unlike many remote trails, there is plenty of reliable cell service available at the higher elevations on this trail.
Difficulty
Rated a 3 for long, loose, and steep hill climbs. While traction is generally good and ruts are easy to navigate, the sheer steepness of the ascents and descents requires 4-Low, deliberate line choice, and careful engine braking to prevent brake overheating.
