Jack 3 - FS 16215

When looking at a map, Jack 3 appears to be the perfect connector route to link up with the Independence Drive (FS 56160) and turn it into a continuous loop. Unfortunately, the reality on the ground is different. The route is so lightly traveled that the visible tracks eventually disappear completely into the tall meadow grass. Because it hasn't seen consistent vehicle traffic in quite some time, it effectively ends at a grassy clearing where the trail becomes indistinguishable. Drivers will have to turn around at this viewpoint meadow and backtrack. Fortunately, the route back to the Independence Trail is highly enjoyable, letting you experience its scenic "roller coaster" hills from the opposite direction. There is absolutely no cell service in this area, so offline navigation is essential. Be aware that mapped loops utilizing this trail are no longer viable without bushwhacking, which should be avoided.
