Trail Overview

Little Wolf Creek Road is a scenic 14.9-mile point-to-point mountain trail near Wolf Creek, Montana, offering adventure motorcycle riders, high-clearance four-wheel-drive vehicles, and SxSs a moderately challenging climb through the Helena National Forest. Climbing from 3,790 feet to a peak of 5,949 feet, this route is best ridden from south to north to experience the fun uphill sections. The trail begins near an ATV park and runs through a brief residential area before transitioning into a more rugged dirt road. As the trail climbs, it introduces loose rock, small ledges, and moderate off-camber sections, gradually reaching a technical rating of 5. Along the way, travelers will navigate a wide double water crossing that runs deep in the spring, along with several smaller creek crossings. The route cuts through active ranching lands where drivers must watch out for free-roaming cattle on the trail. After reaching the high mountain saddle, the trail descends over loose rock until it reaches Highway 200. Heavy mountain snowpack keeps this route impassable for most vehicles until June.

Wet down at the bottom, as in a few large puddles up to the ankles/knees on a bike. Entire trail wasn’t muddy, though. Bone dry when starting to climb out of the creek bed. Fun ride - beargrass is blooming up near Rodger’s Pass at the top of the trail.

Very fun trail. We started from the south working north. For the first few miles it is in a residential area with not much then about 10 miles in it starts going up with very rocky terrain, one lane. There are a few creek crossings, loose gravel but not too bad. Very Enjoyable for my first 5 rating.

Started SE and went NW. Beginning of the trail is just a dirt road with traffic moving up and down. Eventually it narrows and becomes pretty fun, I didn't see another person once the trail narrowed. A good amount of technical areas once you get to the dry and wet creek crossings (deepest water was a couple of inches), switchbacks (anything bigger than a midsized pickup will struggle), and the north part of the trail. Snow was present, but didn't affect traction for me.

This is definitely not a 5. Pretty! especially if you head up to the towers on top. A few really shallow water crossings, two 16 degree off camber spots and a couple small piles of rocks. Lots of deer!

Narrow passageway. Do not recommend large vehicles. Some paths are sketchy, especially areas next to cliffs. We came from the east. The last stretch of the trail, there were deep snow a couple hundred yards. We had to make a path out of it. Very sketchy but we made it.
