Trail Overview
Trail 90190, part of the Taconite Trail, is a little longer than many of the trails in the area and packs a good amount of adventure into the drive. The trail starts out with a mix of gravel and sand, with mud holes along the way that can become more challenging when conditions are wet. As you continue, the trail winds through forested sections and open clearings, with several spurs leading off toward other trails in the area.
One of the highlights is an old wooden bridge with steel gussets. It provides a great opportunity to stop along the water, take a break, and enjoy the scenery before getting back on the trail. Once you leave the bridge behind, the terrain begins to change, with more rocks and rutted sections adding some additional challenge for your 4x4.
The rocks are generally medium-sized rather than large enough for serious rock crawling, but they make for some fun wheel placement and add another dimension to the trail. Combined with the sand, mud holes, ruts, and changing terrain, there's enough variety to keep the drive interesting from beginning to end.
This is a great trail for someone newer to 4x4 driving who wants to experience several different types of terrain without jumping straight into an extreme trail. It offers a good mix of scenery, obstacles, and exploration, with enough adventure to keep more experienced drivers interested as well. Overall, Trail 90190 is a fun section of the Taconite Trail and well worth taking your time to explore.
