Trail Overview

The Kytola Lake Trail is a short but enjoyable trail that branches off Ditch Bank Forest Road and leads to access at Thirty-Six Lake. The trail starts out as a dirt road, with a wet, watery ditch area running alongside the beginning of the route. As you continue toward the lake, the trail gradually changes from dirt to more of a sandy and muddy surface. Depending on recent weather, these sections can become loose and wet, adding a little extra fun to what starts out as an easy forest road. The trail eventually reaches a turnaround area at the lake, where you can access the shoreline. One of the nice features of this trail is that you can drive down with a canoe or kayak, making it a convenient spot to launch and finish the trail with some time on the water. There aren't any major technical obstacles along the route, but the changing surface and potential for mud make it a worthwhile side trail to explore. The short drive through the woods combined with access to Thirty-Six Lake makes this a nice addition to a day of exploring the surrounding forest roads. Overall, Kytola Lake Trail is a simple, enjoyable trail with a great payoff at the end. Bring the canoe or kayak, take your time getting down the trail, and finish the adventure with some time out on Thirty-Six Lake.
