Trail Overview
As the name implies, this trail takes you out to an old gravel pit, but getting there is part of the fun. The trail starts out as a relatively easy dirt road that winds back into the timber. Eventually, you come to a Y in the trail, with either direction providing access to the gravel pit, which is surrounded by the wooded area.
Once you reach the gravel pit, you'll quickly see why this is a fun place to bring a 4x4. The open pit provides plenty of room to explore, with a couple of good hill climbs and a large gravel pile that can provide an opportunity to test your vehicle and find your own line.
There aren't any huge rocks or extreme technical obstacles here, so this isn't a trail for someone looking for serious rock crawling. Instead, it's a great place to have some fun with your vehicle, play around with the terrain, and enjoy a little off-road exploring.
Overall, the Gravel Pit Trail is a fun side trip for anyone who enjoys getting off the pavement. The combination of the wooded approach, open gravel pit, hill climbs, and piles of loose gravel makes it a worthwhile stop, especially if you're looking for somewhere to have some fun rather than simply rack up trail miles.
