Trail Overview
Pine Canopy Trail is a breathtaking bidirectional trail within the Traverse City Forest Management Unit. Located between Plagany Road and 3rd Creek Trail, this trail is easily accessible. This area has such a large number of trails throughout that you could quickly create a day's worth of journeys. Most of the trail is a combination of dirt, gravel, and sand. Starting out, you'll begin on a pretty straightforward gravel road. After you make the turn, you will be greeted with an amazing view of pine trees as far as the eye can see. This is such a beautiful view that you definitely don't want to miss out on. As you continue traversing, the forest becomes a little thicker at certain times, but nothing to be concerned about. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause downed trees, washouts, & mud holes. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails. The trail finishes back out at 3rd Creek Trail, so if you haven't checked that one out, be sure to do so. This is not a difficult trail, but it contains lots of fun with great views of the dense forest that gives access to more recreation. Regardless of the conditions, this is a great trail for everyone.
