Trail Overview

Hendrickson Trail is a scenic bidirectional trail within the Traverse City Forest Management Unit. Located between Plagany Road and Old Forest Trail, this trail is easily accessible. Most of the trail surface consists of dirt and sand. Starting out, you'll begin with the most overgrown part of the whole trail. It doesn't quite seem like this would be a trail, but I promise you it is. The towering trees along this part of the trail are just stunning. It really makes you appreciate the sheer beauty the forest offers us. Shortly after, you'll come across the bend in the road that completely changes the scenery. The overgrowth disappears and leaves you with a typical two-track Michigan trail that surely won't disappoint. The remainder of the trail lightens up from the beginning, but it's something you want to miss. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause downed trees, washouts, & mud holes. Most of this trail is only wide enough for 1 vehicle with limited places to pass. The end of this trail meets up with Old Forest Trail. As always, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails! This trail is not at all difficult, but still gives access to other great recreation and contains plenty of scenic views. Regardless of the length or conditions, this is a good trail for all to check out.
