Trail Overview
FS 8492 is a quick yet exciting scenic out-and-back trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located just south of Nine Mile Bridge Road, this trail is easily accessible. Starting from the north end, you'll start out on a dirt road that quickly turns into a dirt/gravel road. This quickly becomes such a fun trail with all the different sights to take in, so be ready for some gorgeous views. Please TREAD LIGHTLY so future generations can enjoy these public spaces. Like most Michigan trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! This is not a very difficult trail at all, but it contains a lot of fun and beauty, and gives access to other great trails nearby. The south end of the trail finishes at a parking area for the Little Manistee River. This would be a perfect area to disperse camp, as this river is accessible to many different activities. If you do plan to disperse camp, please pack in and pack out anything you bring. Leave the land the way you came on it, or even better. Regardless of the conditions or length of this trail, it's a fantastic route to explore with a lot of fun to be had! As always, again, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails!
