Trail Overview
FS 8481 is an easy and quick out-and-back scenic trail within the Manistee National Forest. Located just south of Little River Road, this trail is easily accessible. Starting from the northern end, you'll start out on a dirt road. You'll quickly come across a sign talking about the Huron-Manistee National Forest. Be sure to take it all in and read any signage you come across carefully. Please TREAD LIGHTLY so future generations can enjoy these public spaces. Like most of Michigan's trails, conditions are dependent on the weather. Recent rainfall can cause unfavorable conditions on the trail, including downed trees, mud holes, and washouts. Come Prepared! This is not a difficult trail at all, but it contains a lot of beauty and gives access to other great trails nearby. The southern end of the trail finishes at a parking area for the Little Manistee River. I'm sure you could even disperse camp in this area if you wanted to, as this is quite a large area. Regardless of the conditions of this trail, it's a wonderful route to check out! As always, again, PLEASE TREAD LIGHTLY and be respectful of our public lands so future generations can have access to these trails! Closed May 15 - June 30.
